Would you ever lie to your family to protect yourself?

Paramedic Abi Quinn is hailed as a hero by the patients she saves with the London Ambulance Service; but a secret she’s kept since she was a teenager now threatens to shatter that perfect illusion.

When her daughter Rose goes missing while studying at Brighton university, and ghosts from her past return to haunt her, Abi’s caught in a race against time to untangle the web of lies she set in motion over twenty years ago.

Everyone has something to lose.
Everyone is trying to protect themselves.
Everyone is broken.
But what lengths will they go to in order to stop the truth from being exposed?

A shocking psychological suspense

Tara Lyons - The Paramedic’s Daughter_cover

“The first time a stranger died in my arms, I cried myself to sleep for a week.”

Abi Quinn is a paramedic working from the ever busy Camden Ambulance Station. One call they receive is for a terrorist attack at Baker Street tube station….Abi and Adele attend and, as professionals do their job….so busy, Abi misses a call from her daughter, Rose.

The following day, she listens to her voice mail and it’s a bit garbled, but she hears Dylan knows……immediately she panics and feels the must need to speak to her daughter…..but she can’t get hold of her…..

Abi is a mess, so worried her secret will be found out…..even her poor mother, suffering from dementia, mentions that Patrick should know about the baby…..but Patrick’s dead…..isn’t he?

Told from Abi’s point of view, it shows how a lie escalates and affects all those around and not just the person telling the lie……it grows and has long reaching consequences in this case…Abi, while a consummate professional at work, saving lives regardless of the background of those injured, internally she is justifying her lie all the time, while panicking about where her daughter is, and how will she react if she ever finds out.

As she visits Brighton to try to find Rose, that past bumps into her, and the truth is about to come out…….!

Well, what can I say…! This is a very clever psychological thriller and I sped through this from start until the incredible, heart stopping end…..time stopped for a moment there while I took it all in…..shockingly brilliant writing by Tara Lyons…

Hunting Evil by Chris Carter – Book Review

‘Every story one day comes to an end…’

As roommates, they met for the first time in college. Two of the brightest minds ever to graduate from Stamford Psychology University. As adversaries, they met again in Quantico, Virginia. Robert Hunter had become the head of the LAPD’s Ultra Violent Crimes Unit. Lucien Folter had become the most prolific and dangerous serial killer the FBI had ever encountered.

Now, after spending three and a half years locked in solitary confinement, Lucien has finally managed to break free. And he’s angry.

For the past three and a half years, Lucien has thought of nothing else but vengeance. The person responsible for locking him away has to pay, he has to suffer. That person … is Robert Hunter.

And now it is finally time to execute the plan.

This is #10 in the Robert Hunter series by Chris Carter and in the Author’s Notes In the front of the book, he does say his previous book in the series An Evil Mind gives the history between Lucian and Hunter, so it may be worth reading this before. I have to admit I haven’t read that yet…..but I didn’t have any trouble reading this as a stand-alone….

Hunting Evil begins with Jordan arriving late to work, he rushes in but finds doors that should be locked, open. Then he see the blood!

Lucian Folter has walked out of the high security prison infirmary ward, killing 5 people…..and taking his time.

He was put in a high security prison instead of maximum security as the FBI wanted him close so they could study him……well that was a mistake….he’s out and he has a plan and that plan revolves around Detective Robert Hunter.

What follows is one of the most gripping, dramatic novels I’ve read…..the writing is fast paced, brutal and and totally compelling……cliche I know, but I couldn’t put it down and read this in two nerve shredding sittings….

Lucian, described as “a sort of modern day urban survivalist” is a master of disguise….learned over many years and noted in his psychopath encyclopaedia, is so calm and utterly terrifying, and he’s after Hunter.

“What Lucian had in store for him would feel like Satan himself had come alive”

Hunter, an insomniac, with a connoisseur’s likening for a fine Single Malt, is also the only person who really understands how Lucian’s mind works……he knows how bad this is going to be…will he survive the game?

Amazingly immersive writing by Chris Carter and I loved every gloriously tense, gruesome moment…..and I can recommend this unreservedly..

Biographies can be an absolute drag, so I won’t bore anyone with a long life story.

I was born in Brasilia, Brazil where I spent my childhood and teenage years. After graduating from high school, I moved to the USA where I studied psychology with specialization in criminal behaviour. During my University years I held a variety of odd jobs, ranging from flipping burgers to being part of an all male exotic dancing group.

I worked as a criminal psychologist for several years before moving to Los Angeles, where I swapped the suits and briefcases for ripped jeans, bandanas and an electric guitar. After a spell playing for several well known glam rock bands, I decided to try my luck in London, where I was fortunate enough to have played for a number of famous artists. I toured the world several times as a professional musician.

A few years ago I gave it all up to become a full time writer. (Courtesy of Goodreads)

Praise for Chris Carter:
‘Carter has a background in criminal psychology and the killers at the centre of his novels are all the more terrifying for it’ Mail on Sunday
‘Carter is one of those authors who makes writing look effortless … I couldn’t put it down’ Crime Squad
‘This is a chilling, compulsive portrait of a psychopath, and proves that Carter is now in the Jeffery Deaver class’ Daily Mail.

Author Bio

Rachel J Bonner is the author of the four book Choices and Consequences series, the first of which, Strand of Faith, is due out in November 2018.
Getting a degree in engineering, followed by a career in accountancy is probably not a conventional path to becoming an author, particularly in paranormal romance. Rachel says that, although accountancy isn’t anything like as boring as everyone thinks, writing is a lot more fun. When not writing, she can be found walking in the beautiful countryside near where she lives, which has influenced much of the scenery in her books, or shooting things with her local archery club. Target
shooting only, honest. Nothing to worry about.

She also enjoys swimming, eating chocolate chip cookies and growing aromatic herbs, especially thyme and rosemary. It’s no coincidence that her heroine likes the same things.
